history

As with the better-known Bonn basketball club, the Telekom Baskets Bonn , the roots of the Bonn team lie in the basketball departments of the two clubs Godesberger Turnverein and SC Fortuna Bonn . Godesberger TV was promoted to the 2nd basketball division in 1988, and in 1990 was promoted to the Bundesliga. After relegation in the following year, the basketball departments of the two clubs merged to form BG Bonn 92 in 1992. In the 1992/93 season, the first men's team of BG Bonn 92 started in the 2nd Bundesliga 1992/93 . In 1993 the professional team switched to Post-SV Bonn and in 1995 to the newly founded Telekom Baskets Bonn club. While Telekom Baskets Bonn was primarily concerned with basketball for men at this point, BG Bonn 92 concentrated primarily on competitive basketball for women. From 1997 to 2004 the first team of BG Bonn 92 played in the 1st women's basketball league (DBBL). The greatest success was the German runner-up in 2002. In 2005, the team was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. In 2010 the descent into the Regionalliga West followed, then in 2011 the relegation to the Oberliga. In 2015 the first women's team reached the cup final of the West German Basketball Association (WBV for short). After a coach change and the associated upheaval, the first women's team was relegated to the state league in 2016. In the course of the 16/17 season, the 1st women's team was withdrawn from play.
