The Basra Sports City Stadium ( Arabic مدينة البصرة الرياضية) is a football stadium in the Iraqi city ​​of Basra , Basra Governorate , in the south of the country. It is part of the Basra Sports City sports complex .

Overview

Construction started on July 15, 2009 and opened on October 12, 2013. The stadium has a capacity of 65,227 seats, 20 suites and 230 VIP seats. It is the home stadium of Naft Al-Janoob SC and Al-Mina'a SC , two clubs from Basra, as well as the Iraqi national football team . They played their first international game in the stadium on June 1, 2017, when they beat Jordan 1-0.

International matches

So far, the stadium has hosted nine international matches for the Iraqi men's national football team .
