The Bassari , also known as Onyan , is the language spoken by a West African ethnic group  whose territory is located in the border area between Senegal and Guinea .

The Bassari is also called basari, tenda basari, biyan, onëyan, onian, ayan and wo.

The language, sometimes called tenda , is used by around 17,910 people, mainly in the Koundara , Youkounkoun and Kédougou region , but also by some emigrated Bassaris in the urban centers of Dakar , Tambacounda and Conakry .

The Bassari language is related to the Coniagui language, also spoken in Koundara and Youkounkoun.

In Senegal, a 2005 decree regulates the orthography of the Onyan.
