Bastian Wick

Bastian Wick (also Sebastian ; † 1571 in Dresden ) was a Dresden councilor and mayor .

Life

Bastian Wick acquired Dresden citizenship in 1555 and was accepted into the city council two years later. Together with Anton Thurler , he was involved in issuing the city's first fire regulations in 1558 . This established a division of the city into quarters, with each of these quarters having a "quarter master" who was responsible for compliance with the regulations and the organization of the fire fighting force. In an emergency, all residents in the district had to come to the fire with their extinguishers. The horse owners were responsible for transporting water barrels to the scene of the accident.

For the mayoral election in 1568, Christoph Kentman , who was designated governing mayor according to the council regulations, asked Elector August to release him from office "because of his age and physical condition". August had already rejected Kentman's election two years earlier because of his old age. Bastian Wick was elected to this office under pressure from the elector. He died three years later in Dresden.
