As a sovereign castle, it was administered by carers and was thus excluded from the downfall of the Starkenbergs . In 1415 Gerwig von Rotenstein certified that he had received the rule of Neustarkenberg for the amount of 800 guilders.

Neustarkenberg Castle and Brewery

From Neustarkenberg Castle to Neustarkenberg Castle and a beer brewery

In 1809 Starkenberg passed to the Stele family of manufacturers from Imst , who set up a brewery here in 1816. In 1904 this passed to the Kapferer-Schatz family from Innsbruck . This resulted in extensive destruction of the old building stock. After a bankruptcy, Carl Kapferer acquired Starkenberg as the main creditor in 1902. In 1919 Kapferer's daughter Herta and her husband Rudolf Schatz took over the management of Starkenberg. Carl Kapferer died in 1934 and the estate was divided. In 1947, 40% of Starkenberg's estimated fortune had to be paid as an atonement, since Herta Schatz was a party member of the NSDAP from 1938 . Rudolf Schatz died in 1969 and Herta Schatz died in 1972. In 1973, Starkenberg GmbH & Co KG was founded with Helga Schatz as managing director. In 1985 the company was handed over to the Amann family, who had been involved in the company since 1984. In 2008 the brewery Schloss Starkenberg BetriebsGmbH was founded.

Building history

The original building from 1317 consisted of a rectangular ring wall with a keep (9.4 m side length and 1.4 m thick walls) on the northeast corner and a building on the east side. On the penultimate floor of the keep, which still exists today, the medieval character (a heavy beamed ceiling and exposed quarry stone masonry) has been preserved. The conversion to a castle begins under the care of Jörg Colaus (northern connecting wing, installations in the eastern part between the southern wing and the tower). Further modifications were made in the baroque period . An outside chapel was built in 1837; the remains of a late baroque chapel were demolished in the thirties of the last century in favor of a brewing facility.
