Bathysauroides gigas ( Gr .: "Bathys" = deep; "saurodes" = lizard) is a deep sea fish from the order of the lizard fish relatives (Aulopiformes). The species lives in the western Pacific on the bottom of the continental slopes and has so far been found in Japan and Australia .

features

Bathysauroides gigas reaches a maximum length of 29 cm. Its body is slim and almost cylindrical, almost round in cross-section and only slightly flattened in the rear section. The eyes are large and sit dorsolaterally . The pupils are elliptical. The only short dorsal fin is in the front half of the body, directly above the pelvic fins . The caudal fin is split.

Systematics

Bathysauroides gigas was in 1952 by Mr. Kamohara as Bathysaurops gigas described and in the family of ipnopidae asked (Ipnopidae). In 1996 the monotypical genus Bathysauroides was established for the species and in 2002 the family Bathysauroididae, which is also monotypical.
