Battery Park City is a district in southwest Manhattan in New York , which was created on the bank of the Hudson River between 1967 and 1976 using soil material from the excavation of the WTC construction .

Like the eponymous Battery Park , the district is administratively part of Manhattan Community Board 1 . The population at the census in 2000 was 7951; this was 2,377 more than in the 1990 census.

Battery Park City is bordered to the east by West Street with the districts of Financial District and Tribeca . It includes the buildings of the World Financial Center , the Museum of Jewish Heritage , the New York Mercantile Exchange and Stuyvesant High School.
