List of neighborhoods in Manhattan
This list of district ( english Neighborhoods ) in New York City's borough Manhattan is organized geographically: from the north of the island to the south.
Manhattan is divided into the following areas:
- Uptown Manhattan refers to an area north of 59th Street and Upper Manhattan begins north of 96th Street .
- Midtown Manhattan is between 34th Street and 59th Street .
- Downtown Manhattan is the area south of 14th Street and Lower Manhattan is south of Chambers Street .
- The West Side is west of Fifth Avenue and the East Side is east of Fifth Avenue.
The names of the neighborhoods and their boundaries are not officially set, so they can change over time due to demographic or economic change.
