Bauernstein monument in Erdeborn

The Erdeborn farm stone is a court stone in the lake district of Mansfelder Land in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt . The small monument is under monument protection as a legal monument and is registered as a special stone in the soil monument directory (monument ID 428300634) .

Small monuments are more often affected by theft, damage and destruction. Farm stones were also often used as building material or simply buried after they lost their original meaning. Erich Neuss described the Stein von Erdeborn in his hikes through the county of Mansfeld in 1935 with the words: In front of the inn lies the Bauernstein, two mighty slabs of red Oberrot Lie.

Approximately there is a rather misshapen, but angular stone block today. However, this is not identical to the historic peasant stone , but after the original disappeared after the Second World War , the loss was regretted - especially since the street is called Am Bauernstein - and a new stone was erected around the year 2000, which is visually unlikely to resemble the Original owns. The porphyry block should therefore be understood more as a monument to the historical peasant stone. It is 85 centimeters long and 70 centimeters wide, its height varies from 60 to 110 centimeters.

The community gathered at peasant stones to negotiate minor legal disputes and community issues. Here, too, orders were read out by the village chief (often a farmer or mayor ). The frequent spatial connection with inns is explained by the fact that the village chief usually also had the right to be a drinker .
