This complex is on the border of two squares: Bruderbrücke and Marktplatz .

The brotherhood complex was built between 1630-1640. For a long time it served as the political center of the Orthodox community in the Wolhyn area. In the 19th century, the brotherhood fell apart. In the 19th century the church was almost completely destroyed. Only the altar part from the former large temple with the rectangular extension from the Soviet era remained . Today the monastery is partly used as living space, the church has been restored and is available to the Wolhyn Brotherhood of the Apostle Andrew , who is the successor to the Lucker Brotherhood of the Holy Cross.

history

In the 16th century, the so-called "Russian Hospital" with the St. Lasar Church and the cemetery was located in the north of the Lutsk island part next to the Glushetsk Bridge. In 1619 the complex burned down. On February 20, 1619, King Sigismund III. Wasa the brotherhood to build a new hospital in the same place, plus a church and a school.

Blueprint

By the end of 1619, the brotherhood owned the former Russian hospital and the designs for the new buildings. Regardless of any obstacles, the construction of the wooden church and school began in 1620 and were completed that same year. At the beginning of the 1630s work began on building the new brick church. The founders of the establishment were individual personalities, fraternity members, citizens , clergy as well as entire Volhynic battle slot families: Gulevytschi, Pusyny, Semaschky and Tschetvertynski.

In 1645, thanks to the efforts of Brother Oleksandr Moselli, King Władysław IV Wasa commissioned the building of the Wall Hospital. Moselli donated about 41,000 gold pieces for the construction, which began the following year. The two-story building was completed in 1647 and the hospital, school, monks' cells, library and printing shop were located here.

Church in the early 19th century

From 1713 the Lutsk Brotherhood fell into disrepair. The monastery went to the Order of Basilian . In 1761 the monastery was destroyed by fire, the restoration lasted until 1774. A new entrance was built in the church altar. In 1795 the church and the monastery became an Orthodox cathedral . In the 19th century the church was almost completely destroyed because nobody cared about it. Only the altar part remained. In 1888 a chapel was built from the remains of the church . The brotherhood got 3,000 Karbowanez from Emperor Alexander III. who attended church on August 27, 1890, and later 2,000 Karbovanets from brotherhood member M. Tereshchenko. The iconostasis was restored and the bells were cast. In 1890 the chapel became a temple again.

Architectural detail

Today it is the Brotherhood's Exaltation of the Cross, since 1990 known as the demolition temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate .

architecture

The church architecture is represented by two concepts: with three chambers, which were characteristic of the Ukrainian wooden churches, and with three naves, which came from the Byzantine architecture. The iconostasis is carved from oak and gilded and dates from the 19th century. It consists of 16 icons. The area between the icons is decorated with six gilded carved columns. The second tier of the iconostasis is made up of two side panels with icons. Above them are angels with crosses and the inscription "Christ is risen". The icon of Jesus Christ hangs above the central icon .
