The Baumburg even Buenburg , Buwenburg or Bawenburg is an Outbound Höhenburg 1000 meters northeast of the Church of Hundersingen , in the municipality of Herbertingen in the district of Sigmaringen in Baden-Württemberg .

location

The tree castle was located on a castle plateau measuring 30 by 34 meters at 603 meters above sea level. NN . This is probably due to an Iron Age United grave hill back and is located on a steeply to the Danube sloping hillside not far from the pre- and early historical hillfort Heuneburg .

history

The castle was built at the end of the 12th century and mentioned in 1190 in the possession of the lords of Baumburg-Hundersingen, who also included the minstrel Ulrich von Buwenburg. On March 15, 1282, a Dietrich von Baumburg sold an owner to the abbess and the convent of Heiligkreuztal . At the end of the 13th century the castle was abandoned and in 1344 was called the Burgstall . In the 16th century, the reconstruction of the castle was forbidden by the Heiligkreuztal monastery .

investment

The former castle complex was probably a tower hill castle (Motte), of which the 9.3 meter high castle hill with a diameter of 75 meters and a moat have been preserved.

Trivia

Weißes Fräulein in der Baumburg is the title of an oral tradition published by Anton Birlinger (1834–1891) and Michel Buck (1832–1888) in their work Sagen, Märchen und Superstlauben (Freiburg im Breisgau 1861), a legend that revolves around the Baumburg climbs.
