The visitors can experience the Sauwald , its animal and vegetable inhabitants as well as the individual tree species with all five senses . Over a length of more than 1000 m, the Baumkronenweg swings up to a height of more than 20 m and connects platforms 26 and 40 meters high observation tower experience tower together. These offer a view of the Innviertel, neighboring Bavaria and Salzkammergut . More than 25 kilometers of round timber were needed to erect the up to 20 meter high walkways and viewing platforms, and a total of more than 700 solid cubic meters of wood were used. Ten tons of bolts and nuts hold the structure together. The project opened in 2005. The treetop path is arranged as a meaningful educational trail. Over a total length of two kilometers, visitors can get to know the forest better step by step. More than 30 stations support those interested in nature.
A total of around one million euros was invested. The project was supported within the framework of the Leader Plus joint initiative with funds from the federal government, the state of Upper Austria and the European Union. The Baumkronenweg is also intended to sustainably revitalize the region around Kopfing, which is weak in terms of tourism.
In 2011, the first edition of the music festival " Woodstock of brass music " took place on the grounds of the Baumkronenweg .
In addition to the treetop path, the treetop path also offers overnight accommodation in tree hotels, which can be booked all year round, as well as the Gasthof Oachkatzl in which baptisms, confirmations, birthdays and the like can be celebrated.
