In 1911/12, together with the beekeeper Johann Merz, Zander constructed the so-called zander prey , which is still widely used in Germany. In 2003 the Bavarian State Institute for Beekeeping was dissolved and affiliated as a specialist center for bees to the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Veitshöchheim . In 2017 it was renamed the Institute for Apiculture and Beekeeping . The director of the institute has been Stefan Berg, who has a PhD in biology since 2012.

tasks

The Institute for Apiculture and Beekeeping sees itself as a competent partner and service provider for Bavarian beekeepers, their associations and all institutions involved in beekeeping. In addition to broad-based practical tests for beekeeping issues, the main research areas are bee health, mating biology and bee nutrition. A well-equipped beekeeping facility for beekeeping practice and for training courses complements the institute's research facilities.
