Ullrich Bauer

Ullrich Bauer (* 1971 ) is a German sociologist and professor for socialization research at Bielefeld University .

Life

The study of sociology , psychology and history took place at the Humboldt University of Berlin , Free University of Berlin and at the University of Münster . In Münster, Bauer obtained his master’s degree (with distinction) and was a young researcher in the research colloquium “ Social Theory and Diagnosis of Time ”, which was initiated and directed by Rolf Eickepasch .

His doctorate (Dr. PH) took place in 2004 at the University of Bielefeld ( Faculty of Health Science ) with Klaus Hurrelmann . In the same year he was appointed assistant professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences (Working Group Health Services Research appointed). After a substitute for a chair in 2009 (chair of social medicine ) at the University of Siegen and a guest researcher stay at the Science Center Berlin (working group Public Health ), Bauer accepted a professorship for socialization research at the University of Duisburg-Essen . Since 2014 he has held the professorship for socialization research at Bielefeld University. There he heads the Center for Prevention and Intervention in Children and Adolescents which he founded . He has been dean of the Faculty of Education since 2019 .

His research focuses on inequality-oriented socialization research on issues of education and health . In this context, the model of productive processing of reality is also continued. In addition, Bauer works on social theories and diagnoses of the times, in which the work of Pierre Bourdieu and the critical theory of the Frankfurt School in particular are received and further developed. Since 2015 he has headed the interdisciplinary and international research consortium on basic health education in children and adolescents (HLCA). In 2019 he founded the “Interdisciplinary Center for Health Competence” with Doris Schaeffer , which he currently heads.
