Doris Schaeffer

Doris Schaeffer (born February 26, 1953 ) is a German nursing and health scientist . Since 1997 she has been Professor of Health Sciences at Bielefeld University . In addition, she has been head of the affiliated Institute for Nursing Sciences since 1997.

Career

Doris Schaeffer studied sociology and educational sciences at the Ruhr University Bochum and at the Free University of Berlin and obtained her diploma in 1976. After several years of academic activity, she received her doctorate in 1989 at the Free University of Berlin.

After ten years of research at the Institute for Social Medicine at the Free University of Berlin, Doris Schaeffer moved to the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) in 1990 , where she worked as a research assistant in the “Public Health” working group. Since 1997 she has held a professorship for health sciences at the School of Public Health at Bielefeld University, where she heads working group 6 “Health Services Research / Nursing Science”. Schaeffer was the spokesperson for the NRW care research association "Patient-oriented care concepts to optimize coping with chronic illness", which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . In addition, from 2010 to 2014 she was a member of the Advisory Council for the Assessment of Developments in Health Care at the Federal Ministry of Health .

Research projects (selection)

1985-1989 "Care of the elderly: needs and barriers": This project was part of the European comparative study "Age Care Research Europe" and was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The project was carried out at the Free University of Berlin.
1993-1996 "Care courses for AIDS patients. Process-related and dynamic aspects of utility use ”, funded by the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology (BMFT).

Lecture on the occasion of the symposium 30 years of the DGP

On the occasion of the symposium "30 Years of the German Society for Nursing Science (= DGP)" in May 2019 in Berlin, Doris Schaeffer gave a lecture. She spoke on the subject of “Nursing Research in Germany: Review and Outlook” (Visions for Nursing and Nursing Science in Germany).
