Johann Behrens (nursing scientist)

Johann Behrens (born March 13, 1949 in Hamburg ) is a German paramedic , nursing scientist and Nestor for Evidence-based Nursing in Germany.

Life

After graduating from high school in his hometown of Hamburg, Johann Behrens initially trained as a paramedic . In 1971 he began studying economics, sociology, philosophy and social medicine at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and Wayne University, Detroit , USA, which he graduated in February 1977 as a sociologist from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main finished. On February 16, 1984 Johann Behrens was there for a Doctor of Philosophy PhD . On December 13, 1995, he completed his habilitation in social economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

In 1992 he was visiting professor at the Universita Federica II, Naples . Between 1995 and 1998 Behrens was appointed professor and vice dean of the nursing and health department at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences and lecturer in health sciences at the University of Bremen .

In 1998 he was appointed founding director of the C4 professorship for nursing and health science at the medical faculty at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . The institute was recognized in 1999 as the German Center for Evidence-based Nursing (EbN) in the international EbN network and was the first German center for evidence-based nursing. Since 2002, Behrens has been editor of the Journal Halle's Contributions to Health and Nursing Sciences and the International Journal of Health Profession .

Between 2007 and 2008, Johann Behrens carried out a training program for nurses in the care of premature babies in Kosovo with nurses and students from the Halle University Hospital. The solution to the technical problems (incubators) turned out to be difficult. Johann Behrens was a board member of the Deans Conference Nursing Science. Between 2010 and 2013 Behrens was a fellow at the Graduate College Dementia of the Network Aging Research at Heidelberg University . In 2014 Johann Behrens retired .

After his retirement, Behrens dealt with the theoretical foundation of care and therapy professions and thus turned to a topic that is underrepresented in the German care landscape.

Commitment to Psychiatric Nursing

In 2016, Johann Behrens was Michael Schulz's mentor with his first habilitation in “Psychiatric Nursing” in Germany. Behrens is an honorary member of the German Society for Psychiatric Care (DFPP). This professional society first awarded the prize for psychiatric nursing to nursing scientist Hilde Schädle-Deininger in 2016 . One of Johann Behrens' close collaborators in psychiatric care was the nursing scientist Christoph Abderhalden .

Nestor for Evidence based Nursing in Germany

It is Behrens' merit to have made the method of evidence-based, which was developed for medicine by Gordon Guyatt from David Sackett's group in the early 1990s , fruitful for German nursing science. Johann Behrens is Nestor from EbN in Germany. Gero Langer is an important companion here.
