Renate Stemmer

Renate Stemmer (born May 23, 1959 ) is a German nursing scientist, university professor and first chairwoman of the German Society for Nursing Science.

Life

Renate Stemmer completed training as a nurse (former job title) at the Marienhospital in Hamm from 1976 to 1979. She worked as a nurse until 1988 and completed specialist training as an anesthetist and intensive care nurse. This was followed by further training as a teacher for nursing professions as well as the study of diploma education at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal with subsequent doctorate. After teaching assignments at various universities of applied sciences, in March 2000 she was offered the chair for nursing science and nursing management at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, which Ms. Stemmer accepted and currently holds. In 2004 Renate Stemmer was visiting professor at the "University of Iowa".

Ms. Stemmer's work and research focus is on care classification, care organization, quality management, the care process and the care of people with dementia.

Functions and memberships

Renate Stemmer has been the first chairperson of the German Society for Nursing Science (DGP) without interruption and succeeds nursing scientist Sabine Bartholomeyczik (* 1944) in this position . Renate Stemmer has been co-editor of the magazine “Pflege & Gesellschaft” since 2009. From 2006 to 2013 Renate Stemmer was deputy chairwoman of the Robert Bosch Foundation's alumni network “Care needs elites”.

Renate Stemmer is a member of the scientific demographic advisory board of the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate and a member of the state committee for dementia in this state.

She is a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate Care Chamber.
