Mariusz Hermansdorfer (* May 8, 1940 in Lemberg ; † August 18, 2018 in Wroclaw ) was a Polish art historian and art critic , from 1983 to 2014 director of the Wroclaw National Museum .

Mariusz Herman villages studied art history at the University of Breslau and graduated in 1966. He then attended on a scholarship from France (1973), Italy (1978), the Benelux countries (1980), Great Britain (1984), the United States (1988) and Switzerland ( 1990).

In the period 1964–1966 he was employed in the then Silesian Museum (now the National Museum), 1967–1971 in the Museum of the City of Wroclaw, and since 1972 again in the National Museum. From 1983 to 2013 he held the post of Director of the Wroclaw National Museum.

Hermansdorfer was a member of the International Association of Art Critics , from 1976 to 1980 he was chairman of the Polish department. He was also a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

He was active as a critic and promoter of contemporary art in Poland and abroad, he created a collection of art from the 20th and 21st centuries in the Wroclaw National Museum. In the building of the former historical exhibition by Hans Poelzig from 1913, the so-called four-domed pavilion, he built the museum of contemporary art.

He showed modern Polish art a. a. at the international art exhibitions in Cagnes-sur-Mer (1975–1996), São Paulo (1977–1989) and in New Delhi (1986–1998).

Mariusz Hermansdorfer was a. a. Awarded the Knight's Cross (1998), Officer's Cross (2006) and Commander's Cross (2013) of the Polonia Restituta Order as well as the Gloria Artis Medal for cultural merit .

He has authored and edited many books, mainly on Polish contemporary art and artists.
