Albert Scherr (born July 15, 1958 in Edenkoben ) is a German sociologist and social work scientist .

Albert Scherr studied sociology, educational science and philosophy at the University of Frankfurt , where he graduated in 1981 with a diploma in sociology and received his doctorate in 1985 . From 1981 to 1983 and from 1985 to 1988 he worked as a social worker in youth work and youth social work. He then worked as a research assistant at Bielefeld University and from 1990 to 2001 professor of sociology and youth education at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences . Scherr received his habilitation as a sociologist for general sociology at the University of Karlsruhe in 1998 . Since 2001 he has been a professor at the Freiburg University of Education and head of the Institute for Sociology.

Albert Scherr is a member of the Council for Migration and the Refugee Research Network , a member of the board of the Committee for Fundamental Rights and Democracy and the editorial advisory board of the journals Sozialeproblem , Sozial Extra, and the magazine for refugee research .

Scherr's work focuses on sociological theory, discrimination research, migration and refugee research, theories of social work , racism , right-wing extremism , qualitative-empirical social research, educational research and youth research .
