Michael Bommes

Michael Bommes (born October 18, 1954 in Düsseldorf ; † December 26, 2010 in Osnabrück ) was Professor of Sociology / Methodology of Intercultural and Interdisciplinary Migration Research.

life and work

Michael Bommes studied sociology, philosophy and linguistics. He received a scholarship from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung from 1984 to 1987 and received his doctorate in 1990 from the University of Osnabrück .

From 1989 to 1991 Michael Bommes worked as a research assistant at the University of Bielefeld , from 1991 to 1992 also as a research assistant at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. In 1997/98 he was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence / Italy. In the winter semester (WS) 1998/99 he completed his habilitation in sociology. From winter semester 2000/2001 to winter semester 2002/2003 he was appointed professor of sociology at the PH Freiburg . In the winter semester 2002/2003 he became Vice Rector for Research and International Affairs at the PH Freiburg.

Michael Bommes has been researching and teaching as professor for sociology and interdisciplinary migration research at the University of Osnabrück since 2003 . From 2006 to 2009 he was the dean of the social sciences department. He was director of the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) from 2005 to 2009.

In addition to his work as a researcher and teacher, Michael Bommes was a board member of the Migration and Ethnic Minorities Section of the German Society for Sociology, Chairman of the nationwide Council for Migration (RfM) , member of the Advisory Council of German Foundations for Integration and Migration (SVR) , Associate Fellow of the ' Migration Research Group '(MRG) of the Hamburg World Economic Institute (HWWI) and member of the management committee of the' Network of Excellence 'in International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion (IMISCOE). He also worked with his expertise as a consultant in public spaces.

Michael Bommes was the author and editor of numerous books and articles on the subject areas and problem areas
