Bayrak Radyo Televizyon Kurumu (BRT; pronounced: be-re-te; German flag of radio and television broadcasting corporation) is the national radio and television company of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus .

history

The Bayrak Radyo was founded to counterbalance the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation . Bayrak Radyo's first broadcast was broadcast from a garage on December 25, 1963 and had a range of 2.5 km. The power supply was ensured by two car batteries.

On February 24, 1964 the 'Bayrak Radyo' was technically upgraded so that the station could be received on the whole island. The Bayrak Radyo was able to transmit almost continuously until 1974.

After the establishment of the Turkish Federal State of Cyprus (tr: Kıbrıs Türk Federe Devleti) the 'Bayrak Radyo' was further expanded, so that in 1976 the first television programs were broadcast. Before that, on July 19, 1976, the technology for black and white television in Diyarbakır was dismantled and brought to the Turkish federal state of Cyprus; the broadcasting company was renamed Bayrak Radyo Televizyonu .

Important innovations at the BRT were FM radio transmission (December 4, 1977), color television (July 1, 1979) and the link between Ankara and North Nicosia (July 6, 1979).

After the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 1983, a law was passed which gave the BRT the status of an autonomous institute and renamed it Bayrak Radyo Televizyon Kurumu (Bayrak Radio-Television Institute).

In 1997 the BRT Institute was connected to the Internet, its own website presentation was created and a television channel and two different radio stations were made available online.

'BRT-1 TV', 'Bayrak Radyosu' and 'Bayrak INT' are available through TURKSAT for Turkey, the Middle East, Europe and Central Asia.

The programs 'Bayrak Radyosu', 'Bayrak INT' and 'Bayrak FM' broadcast their programs around the clock.
