Beška ( Serbian Бешка ) is an approx. 15 hectare small island in Montenegro , which is about 400 meters away from the village Murici ( municipality of Bar ) on the southern shore of Lake Skadar .
There are two medieval churches on the island :
- The Church of the Blessed Virgin , built in 1440 for Helena, daughter of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović . The sacred building has a small single-nave structure with a central tower above the gable. The church was restored to a more modern form after it threatened to deteriorate.
- St. George , built in 1442. The single-nave building has a dome and semicircular apsidia that give the choir the shape of a clover leaf. The church has a narthex and a central bell tower above the entrance.
