Beatrix of Savoy
Beatrix of Savoy (* around 1200; † 1266 in Les Échelles ) was a daughter of Thomas I of Savoy and Beatrix of Geneva .
On July 5, 1219 Beatrix married Raimund Berengar V, a count of Provence . After two miscarriages, this marriage gave birth to four daughters who, thanks to a clever wedding policy at the intersection of German and French territorial interests, all rose to be queens:
- Margaret of Provence ∞ Louis IX. the saint , King of France. The couple had eleven children, including the future King of France Philip III. and Robert von Clermont , the founder of the Bourbon dynasty.
- Eleanor of Provence ∞ Henry III. Plantagenet , King of England. The couple had nine children, including the future King of England Edward Longshanks .
- Sancha of Provence ∞ Richard of Cornwall , Roman-German King . Sancha had three sons with him and thus became the ancestor of the Cornwallis family .
- Beatrix of Provence ∞ Charles of Anjou , King of Naples and Sicily. The couple had seven children, including the later King of Naples and Sicily Charles II of Anjou , the later Latin Empress Beatrix and the later Queen of Hungary Isabella.
