Beatriz Costa
Beatriz Costa (born December 14, 1907 in Charneca do Milharado, today the municipality of Venda do Pinheiro , Mafra , † April 15, 1996 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese actress .
Career
From the simplest of circumstances, she was interested in entertainment theater at an early age. At 15 she was on stage for the first time, in a small role in the choir at the Teatro Éden . She later became known as a singing and dancing actress at the revue theaters in Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro . She had first roles in a few silent films before she became famous with A Canção de Lisboa at the side of Vasco Santana , and with Aldeia da Roupa Branca her fame consolidated. Her roles in the popular theater revues of the 30s to 50s were the main source of her popularity, which through the films also spread to a wider audience. As the humorous and carefree cheerful nature with a characteristic page haircut and exuberant joie de vivre, she is still popular today and, along with António Silva and Vasco Santana, is a symbol of the still popular Portuguese comedies of the 30s to 50s.
After the Carnation Revolution , she wrote autobiographical books that received public attention. She always refused offers to perform again, always with reference to the greatly changed musical theater. She lived the last decades of her life in the Hotel Tivoli in Lisbon, in room number 600. Even during her lifetime, she was repeatedly dedicated to television programs and theater reviews, and various records and CD compilations of her song recordings from films and radio programs were published. After her death in 1996, a museum was set up for her in Malveira , north of Lisbon, where, in addition to photos, posters, props and a cloakroom, a number of items from her personal estate can be seen.
