Beatriz de la Fuente (born February 6, 1929 in Mexico City , † June 20, 2005 ) was a Mexican art historian and critic .

Life

De la Fuente studied history at the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and specialized in art history . After receiving her doctorate, she taught art history and art criticism, modern art , especially Mexican modern art, pre- Hispanic society and pre-Hispanic art, mostly at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA), the Escuela Nacional de Antropología and the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities at UNAM. From 1963 to 1970 she was director of the UIA School of Art History. From 1973 she was responsible for the UNAM's art collection. From 1980 to 1986 she headed the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas at UNAM .

Beatriz de la Fuente was a member of the Academia de Artes , from 1977 to 1988 also president. She was also a member of the Colegio Nacional since May 7, 1988 and was the founder of the Comité Mexicano de Historia del Arte . She was also a member of the Association for Latin American Art and was vice-president of the International Committee for Art History ( CIHA ) from 1979 .

De la Fuente has chaired numerous national and international congresses, published twelve books and more than 70 specialist articles. In December 1989 she was awarded the Mexican National Prize for Science and Art History, Social Sciences and Philosophy.
