Beautiful (Original title: 아름답다 - Arumdabda) is a South Korean film drama directed by Juhn Jaihong an idea by Kim Ki-duk from the year 2008 .

The extraordinary beauty of the young woman Eunyoung is her undoing: all men fall in love with her. Even her best friend's boyfriend makes her advances. This eventually leads to an argument between the two friends. Eunyoung is very annoyed by the constant looks of men. A man who has been watching her for a long time raped her one day and then voluntarily turned himself in to the police. She is again humiliated by the investigating inspector. He agrees with the perpetrator when he claims the young woman is responsible for the crime. Eunyoung begins to hate her looks, believing her beauty is to blame for her misfortune. She begins to destroy her beauty. First, she emulates a fat woman she meets in the park. She develops a downright voraciousness. But after a certain time, her body struggles and she has to vomit all the time. When she realizes that her plan will not lead to anything, she completely refuses to eat and begins to lose weight. She does sport to the point of exhaustion. But from this she becomes more and more sick and weaker until she loses her mind and sees strangers as her rapists. A young police officer who also fell in love with her wants to help her. But even he cannot do anything about the desperation and confusion of Eunyoung and has to realize that the situation can hardly be saved. It is becoming increasingly difficult for him to defend himself against his desire for the young woman. One day he ties a pistol in Eunyoung's hand and rapes the unconscious woman. When she wakes up, she shoots the young man and kills more people because she recognizes them as her first rapist. She is then shot by the police. Even when dead, her beauty seduces the undertaker.

“Although the film has a very beautiful imagery and is not boring for a minute, it remains open what the director wants to tell us with his work. It probably doesn't do much to look for any kind of message, it is probably about portraying the sexist, degrading behavior of some men towards women and allowing it to escalate. "
