Beauty , actually Highland Dale (born March 4, 1943 , † around 1972 ) was an American Saddle Horse from Missouri , who appeared in numerous films.
Life
Originally the black stallion was named Highland Dale ; later he was also known by the names of the horses he played. At the age of 18 months he was bought by his future trainer and taken to California .
From 1955 to 1960, Beauty embodied the stallion Fury . The fee for the horse, which was used for this series along with four others, was $ 1,500 per episode. Beauty was used for all scenes that required unusual dressage performance. In eight years, the horse made more than $ 500,000 for owner and trainer Ralph McCutcheon . Only with the animal actors of Lassie could more money be made. The stallion also appeared in numerous other films, including guest roles in the series Bonanza . Beauty, who had had breathing problems for most of his life, died at the age of 29; There were sad rumors about his end, but they were probably based on a mix-up with another black stallion on McCutcheon's ranch.
