The Beaver Lake is an 11 km long and 8 km wide lake at the edge of the Prince Charles Mountains in the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . It is enclosed to the south and east by the Flagstone Bench and the Jetty Peninsula and lies at the southern end of a glacier field with rugged ice at a distance of 27 km east-southeast of the Aramis Range .
The lake was discovered in 1956 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . In September 1957, Australian scientists established a base camp here, with the lake serving as a landing area for de Havilland Canada DHC-2 aircraft . The descriptive name Beaver for this type of aircraft gave the lake its name.
