The Hetterbach is a brook in southern Hesse in the Modau catchment area . It flows in the district of Darmstadt in the Eberstadt district . The brook is 1.8 km long from its source to its mouth in a pond on the north-eastern edge of the village far away from the Modau. After the pond, the water on the right-hand side disappears into the sewer system, via which it reaches the Modau, which flows through the center of Eberstadt, after another 1.5 to 2 km.

The Hetterbach was named after the Hettersberg, today's Prinzenberg .

course

The catchment area of the Hetterbach lies in the Eberstädter Becken natural area, which is part of the Bergstrasse main natural area . The brook arises in a swamp area in the Darmstadt Forest between the nearby Prinzenberg ( 241  m above sea  level ) in the west, the Kirchberg ( 244  m ) in the east and the Lindenberg ( 254.1  m ) in the southeast and flows consistently southwest.

Already a little after its origin not far from the city limits to the Nieder-Ramstadt district of the neighboring municipality of Mühltal in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, water flowing from the Melita fountain near the edge of the forest strengthens the Hetterbach. Then he leaves the forest and traverses, partly accompanied by a tree gallery, a corridor that is not very open because of the many orchards and four ponds in it.

On the northeast edge of Eberstadt, the Hetterbach ends in a pond on the western edge of the oak grove (up to 224  m ), which no longer has an above-ground drain. Rather, its water flows into the valley and seeps into the sandy subsoil.
