The village was first mentioned in a document in 1190/94, when a Cunradus de Ramstadt was attested as a canon of the St. Andrews monastery in Worms . However, archaeological finds have shown that the Alemanni had already settled in this area. An Alemannic settlement from the 4th century AD and a late Merovingian burial ground (around 700 AD) have been proven by numerous finds.

Since the 13th century it belonged to the domain of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen . In 1259, the Bishop of Würzburg awarded the Gerau royal court to the County of Katzenelnbogen. In 1318 Nieder-Ramstadt was in the course of a partition contract between Count Berthold III. (Bertolf) and Count Eberhard II. Von Katzenelnbogen mentioned. In 1403 Count Johann IV. Von Katzenelnbogen confirmed that he a. a. Nieder-Ramstadt as a fief of Bishop Johann von Würzburg . With the death of the last male descendant Philip I of Katzenelnbogen in 1479, it was inherited by Heinrich III. to the Landgraviate of Hesse .

From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the bakers and millers from Nieder-Ramstadt were of supraregional importance. In 1623 53 masters were named in the corresponding guild for the place.

The hamlet In der Mordach was formed at the beginning of the 18th century from four mills, the Neue Bohlen-, the Frankenbergers- (today Waldhof), the Glashütten- (today Haus Burgwald) and the Zehmühle.

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Nieder-Ramstadt in 1829:

»Niederramstadt (L. Bez. Reinheim) Lutheran parish village; lies on both sides of the Modaubach, over which a beautiful stone bridge built in 1734 leads, and 2 St. from Reinheim. The place consists of 159 houses and 1283 inhabitants, up to 15 Cath., 7 Reform. and 9 Jews are Lutheran. There are 60 farmers, 57 tradespeople and 58 day laborers among the population. You will find 1 church with a wonderful bells, 1 rectory, 2 schoolhouses, 1 town hall, built in 1729, 1 small educational institution for female orphans, built in 1822, 15 grinding mills, 1 powder, 1 paper and 1 oil mill. This village was probably carried by the Counts of Katzenellenbogen, a fief of the Würzburg monastery; but in another place Niederramstadt is listed as a Katzenellenbogensches allodium . The church was initially a mother church, but became a branch of Darmstadt in the 14th century and only received its own pastor after the Reformation. Masonry found suggests that the village was once larger. "

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse on April 1, 1972, the municipality Waschenbach was incorporated as a district on a voluntary basis . On January 1, 1977, the previously independent municipalities Nieder-Ramstadt, were then Frankenhausen , Nieder-Beerbach and Traisa powerful state law the new municipality Mühltal together . For Nieder-Ramstadt, as for the other former municipalities, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed according to the Hessian municipal code. The seat of the municipal administration was Nieder-Ramstadt.

Nieder-Ramstadt belonged to the center of Pfungstadt whose tasks were carried out from around 1800 by the Pfungstadt office. In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt, the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Darmstadt” was set up as a court of second instance for the Principality of Starkenburg . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or the landlords . The Pfungstadt Office was responsible for Nieder-Ramstadt. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate . The main courts had lost their function.

With the formation of the regional courts in the Grand Duchy of Hesse, the regional court of Lichtenberg was the court of first instance from 1821 . It followed:

coat of arms

DEU Nieder-Ramstadt COA.svg

Blazon : "In the shield, which is quartered with silver and red, a blue vine leaf in each of the silver fields and a golden pretzel in each of the red fields."

The coat of arms was approved by the local council in a meeting on October 6, 1966 and approved by the Hessian Minister of the Interior for the Nieder-Ramstadt community in what was then the Darmstadt district on February 17, 1967 . It was designed by the Bad Nauheim heraldist Heinz Ritt .

It shows the two branches of the economy that are historically important for Nieder-Ramstadt, the bakers and millers who were organized in a common guild with Traisa, and viticulture, which was once very important in the region. The crossing in red and silver goes back to the Würzburg imperial storm flag, since Nieder-Ramstadt used to belong to the diocese of Würzburg.

Local coat of arms before 1967

Before the current coat of arms was awarded, the Nieder-Ramstädter coat of arms showed a horizontally inlaid silver mill iron on a red shield, above it a golden pretzel and two different crossed golden alarm clocks.

This coat of arms, which can still often be found today, goes back to court seals of the 16th and 17th centuries and emphasizes the importance of the bakers and millers in the village.
