Pfungstadt office

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pfungstadt office was an office of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt and, from 1806, of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

function

In the early modern period , offices were a level between the municipalities and the sovereignty . The functions of administration and jurisdiction were not separated here. The office was headed by a bailiff who was appointed by the rulers.

history

prehistory

Originally the Pfungstadt Office was part of the Darmstadt Office , as late as 1783. The Darmstadt Office belonged to the County of Katzenelnbogen and there to the Upper County of Katzenelnbogen . 1457 married Anna von Katzenelnbogen, daughter of Philip the Elder, Landgrave Heinrich III. of Hessen. When Philip died in 1479, the County of Katzenelnbogen - and with it the Darmstadt Office - fell to the Landgraviate of Hesse .

When the Landgraviate of Hesse was divided under the heirs of Landgrave Philip I in 1567, the entire Upper County of Katzenelnbogen came to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt .

Its first regent, Landgrave Georg I , arranged for the Landrecht collection of the Upper County of Katzenelnbogen , compiled by his Chancellor, Johann Kleinschmidt , to become legally binding. It applied in all municipalities of the Office Darmstadt, and thus all the churches of the later spun Office Pfungstadt as particular law , subsidiary complemented by the Common Law , to the end of the 19th century. It was not until January 1, 1900, when the Civil Code , which was uniformly valid throughout the German Reich , that the old particular law was suspended.

Emergence

In 1787 the Pfungstadt Office was spun off from the Darmstadt Office.

The End

Between 1821 and 1823 there was an administrative reform in the Grand Duchy, with the separation of jurisdiction and administration at the lower level. District districts were created for the administrative tasks previously performed in the offices, and district courts for the first instance jurisdiction.

The Pfungstadt office was dissolved, and the municipalities were assigned to different administrative districts in terms of administration and different regional courts in terms of jurisdiction.
