The church stands in the middle of the former cemetery above a high retaining wall at the highest point of the historic town center. It was first mentioned in 1324, but is older. In the 15th century it became a branch church of the Darmstadt City Church. With the introduction of the Reformation , the community became independent again.

The exterior of the church is characterized by the mighty tower . The tower, rotated by approx. 20 degrees opposite the east-facing church, stands out from the rest of the building. Its lower area probably dates from the 13th century and was repaired in 1572/73 and its upper half renewed in 1605/06. The four-storey tower, built on a square floor plan , with a surrounding cornice and pointed or round-arched closed sound openings as well as small pointed arched windows is closed by a pointed eight-sided helmet , which is surrounded by small eight-sided helmets on the four tower edges. The tower hall on the ground floor is covered with a ridged vault .

Instead of the former narrow Romanesque nave , the nave and choir with a 5/8 end were rebuilt in the 15th century . In the years 1607/08 the nave was extended to the south and received two-part arched windows. Inside, the ship has a flat ceiling decorated with geometric stucco fields .

The one-bay choir, one step higher, has a beautiful net vault over heraldic consoles and is decorated with tendrils from the 15th century.

The wooden gallery on two sides on wooden supports and profiled beams comes from the renovation in 1608. The richly profiled wooden pulpit dates from 1743. Next to the pulpit are two sandstone grave slabs from the early 18th century.

The church of Nieder-Ramstadt, including its furnishings, is a cultural monument for architectural and historical reasons .
