Beawar ( Hindi ब्यावर Byāvar ; also Nayanagar ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the Indian state of Rajasthan .
It had around 145,000 inhabitants at the 2011 census and is located in the Ajmer district . The trading city is located in the Aravalli Mountains .
history
Beawar is quite a young city by Indian standards. It was founded in 1835 by the British Colonel Dixon at a strategically convenient location (near the princely states of Jaipur , Marwar and Udaipur). In 1901 the place had 21,928 inhabitants. The name of the city can be traced back to a village called "Beawar Khas".
economy
The city is known for its cotton production. Industrial operations include food production and Shree Cement Ltd.
The nearest airport is 180 km away in Jaipur .
politics
Beawar currently (2010) has a representative in the Indian lower house . Shankar Singh Rawat is a member of the Indian People's Party .
