Beckman Coulter is an American biotechnology and medical technology company that manufactures laboratory and measuring equipment for chemical laboratories and the medical sector. It was founded in 1935 by Arnold Orville Beckman under the company National Technical Laboratories for the purpose of producing and marketing the pH meters newly developed by Beckman at the time .
history
In the 1940s the company was changed to Arnold O. Beckman, Inc. to manufacture components and assemblies for laboratory use such as precision potentiometers , spectrophotometers, and oxygen measurement devices . In 1950 the company name was changed again, this time to Beckman Instruments, Inc. 1955 Beckman supported the physicist William B. Shockley in founding Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory , then a subsidiary of Beckman Instruments . That subsidiary became the first semiconductor company in the following years and is considered the founding company of Silicon Valley . The company's headquarters in Germany are in Krefeld .
In 1997 the company Coulter Corporation was bought and the name changed to Beckman Coulter in 1998 .
In 2009 Beckman Coulter bought the diagnostics division from Olympus .
On June 30, 2011, Beckman Coulter was acquired by Danaher Corporation .
