Bedri Myftari
Bedri Myftari (born December 21, 1938 in Filiates , † November 8, 2013 in Tirana ) was an Albanian writer , journalist and publicist .
Life
Myftari was born in 1938 in the village of Sklav bei Filiates in what is now Greece . His family belonged to the autochthonous Albanian population of the southern Epirus region - the Çamen . At the age of five or six, Myftari and his family had to flee to Albania in the course of the collective displacement of around 20,000 Çamen by the Greeks .
Myftari attended a seven-year elementary school in the southern Albanian city of Fier and later a technical and financial secondary school in the capital Tirana . He graduated from high school there.
In the early 1960s, Myftari worked as a journalist for the newspaper Zëri i Rinisë (voice of youth) . He started writing at a young age. In 1966, the League of Writers and Artists of Albania (Lidhja e Shkrimtarëve dhe Artistëve të Shqipërisë) accepted him as a member. In 1967 and 1969 his first short stories Fluturzat e borës (The Snow Butterflies ) and Mbrëmjet e qytetit tim (The Evenings of My City) appeared .
Bedri Myftari was president of the secret group of boys against the party's line in art and literature (Grupi i të rinjve kundër vijës së partisë në art dhe letërsi) at the time of the socialist dictatorship in Albania . Its members included Suzana Selenica , Bilal Xhaferri , Namik Mane , Zyhdi Morava , Faik Ballanca , Roland Gjoza , Kostandin Dhamo , Sadri Ahmeti and Ahmet Golemi . In 1968 the group was uncovered by the Albanian secret police Sigurimi : all of them were deprived of their publication rights for 20 years and Myftari was imprisoned.
After the democratic change in Albania in 1990/91 , Myftari was released from prison as part of an amnesty of radical change. He then worked as a journalist for the newspaper Kosova (Kosovo) , was the main editor of the newspaper Tribuna Demokratike (The Democratic Tribune) , at times the editor in charge of the Europe-wide newspaper Emigranti shqiptar (The Albanian Emigrant) and later the main editor of the newspaper Bota shqiptare (The Albanian World) and Çamëria . Myftari also worked with the magazines Drita (The Light) and Krahu i Shqiponjës (The Wing of the Eagle) , where he published journalistic and his own literary works.
Bedri Myftari died on November 8, 2013 at the age of 74 in Tirana.
