Marko Beens

Marko G. Beens (born January 21, 1970 in Braunschweig ) is a German business graduate (FH) for sports management . Since 2002 he has worked as a sports manager for various clubs in the 1st basketball league, in the presidium of the basketball league and as managing director of the German volleyball league (DVL) . Most recently, Beens was a board member at the first division basketball team and Champions League participant MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg .

Career

After attending school with high school diploma in Braunschweig and studying, Beens graduated from the Braunschweig / Wolfenbüttel University of Applied Sciences in 2002 with a degree in business administration / sports management.

In 2001, Beens took part in the establishment of StadtSport Braunschweig GmbH (1st basketball league, today Basketball Löwen Braunschweig ) as an assistant to the management and worked together with sports marketing manager Peter Henke .

In the summer of 2002, Beens took over the management of the Quakenbrück Bundesliga basketball team Artland Dragons .

In September 2006, Beens was appointed Vice President of the AG Basketball Bundesliga e. V., along with ex- BBL managing directors Otto Reintjes and Jens Brämer of the Cologne 99ers . V., the community of interests of the BBL clubs. After two re-elections in autumn 2011, he resigned from his position when he switched to the German Volleyball League (DVL).

In the summer of 2011 he resigned as Managing Director of Quakenbrück and took over the management of the German Volleyball League in Berlin as the successor to Thorsten Endres in the 2011/2012 season . In April 2012 they separated again amicably.

On January 1, 2013, Beens replaced Manfred Schöttner as managing director of the first division basketball team BBC Bayreuth . In May 2013 Beens left the club for personal reasons.

On January 15, 2014, Beens became Managing Director of Finance, Organization and Marketing at Brose Baskets Bamberg . In mid-July 2014, he ended the collaboration.

On August 15, 2016, Beens was appointed 2nd Chairman of the Board of Management of MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg . His term of office ended after the 2017/18 season.

Achievements and Awards

In dance , Beens became an active dancer with the Braunschweig TSC in the 1990s, including multiple world and European champions in standard formation dancing . In 1998 he became the coach of the BTSC-B team.

Beens was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf in 1994, the highest German award for sporting achievements.

As managing director or manager of Artland Dragons, Beens achieved the following successes:

  • Champion 2. Bundesliga without defeat in 2002/2003
  • German runner-up cup winner 2007
  • German runner-up in 2007
  • Team of the year in Lower Saxony 2007
  • German cup winner 2008
  • Best German team in the ULEBCUP 2007/2008 (Last 16)
  • Best German team in the EuroCup 2008/2009 (Last 16)
  • Second best German team in the EuroChallenge 2009/2010 (last 16)

As a board member of MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, he achieved the following successes:

  • Economically most successful season in club history (2016/2017)
  • Most successful sporting season in the club's history (2017/2018: reaching the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League in Athens and third place in the Basketball Bundesliga ).

Others

Beens is a member of the highly gifted Mensa in Germany (MinD), his intelligence quotient is 137.

Beens is also a member of the Rotary Club of Bersenbrück Altkreis.
