In the Republic of Austria there are no legal obligations to use flags on buildings. Everyone is free to permanently flag their house or business premises with the national flag and / or the national flag. The flagging (permanent flagging, permanent flagging and mourning flagging) on official buildings of the federal government is generally regulated by resolutions and, if necessary, by decrees.
The Austrian coat of arms law is deliberately kept liberal in order to make it as easy as possible for the population to use their own flag. Due to the lack of legal provisions for the correct use of the Austrian flag , the Austrian flag and flag order was developed by private parties, which has been incorporated into the decrees and ordinances of the authorities for the flagging of their service buildings. Similarly, the respective state governments regulate the flagging of their office buildings.
Flag days
General flagging days
- May 1st - Labor Day (national holiday)
- May 9 - Europe Day
- October 26th - National Day
At least on October 26th and May 1st, the population is also called upon to flag their homes. The flag is displayed with the national flag (possibly together with the national flag); on May 9th, the flag will be displayed with the European flag (possibly together with the national flag or the national flag). Furthermore, it is customary in Tyrol and in part in Upper Austria to flag the houses on Corpus Christi and on days when processions take place.
