The Liberation-of-the-source fountain in the part of Vienna's city park in Vienna's 1st district, Innere Stadt , is one of six fountains in this park.

description

Two colossal male figures made of Leitha limestone are trying to lift a boulder that is obstructing the flow of water from a spring. From a gap that has already been created, the water flows into a deeper oval water basin made of Leithakalk, which has a capacity of around four cubic meters of water. Between the group of figures and the fountain basin there is a "natural rock" made of Leitha conglomerate.

The Liberation-of-the-Source-Fountain is part of a staircase made of Gmünder granite from the Wiener Stadtpark to the lower Vienna river promenade opposite the dairy farm in the 3rd district .

history

The group of figures was designed by Josef Heu and acquired by the municipality of Vienna in 1903 on the occasion of the 8th spring exhibition of the Hagenbund artists' association . The complex designed by the architect Josef Urban was unveiled on November 16, 1903.
