Career

Noah Welch began his career as a hockey player on the Harvard University team , where he was active from 2001 to 2005. He had previously been selected as a high school player in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a total of 54 players by the Pittsburgh Penguins .

For the Penguins he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2005/06 season , scoring four points in five games. The rest of the season he spent with Pittsburgh's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . On February 27, 2007, the defender was given in exchange for Gary Roberts to the Florida Panthers , where he spent the following two years in the NHL, before ending the 2008/09 season with their league rivals Tampa Bay Lightning . On July 13, 2009, Welch received a one-year contract as a free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers . In his first season in the Thrashers organization, Welch went to the AHL for their farm team, the Chicago Wolves . At the end of June 2010 this extended his contract for another season, in which Welch was still mainly active for the Wolves and also completed two NHL games for the Thrashers.

In the summer of 2011 decided to become involved in Europe and joined the Swedish club HV71 from the Elitserien . For the 2012/13 season he moved within the league to the Växjö Lakers , where he served as the team's assistant captain for the next three years . In the 2014/15 season , the American won the Swedish championship with the Lakers and was awarded the Stefan Liv Memorial Trophy as the most valuable player in the play-offs. In June 2015 he moved to league competitor MODO Hockey and temporarily took over the captaincy of the team in the following 2015/16 season , representing the injured Byron Ritchie .

For the 2016/17 season he moved to the Malmö Redhawks within the SHL .

Internationally, he represented his home country at the 2018 Winter Olympics and finished seventh there with the team that competed without an NHL player.
