Wichard Freiherr von Massenbach (born January 9, 1909 in Berlin , † April 10, 1998 in Eutin ) was a German gynecologist . As a university lecturer, he was the founding dean of the Medical Academy in Lübeck .

Life

Wichard von Massenbach was the son of Adolf von Massenbach and his wife Julie nee. Dietze. He studied medicine at the Georg August University and became a member of the Corps Saxonia Göttingen in 1928 . In 1929 he moved to the University of Rostock . After the state examination in 1933, he worked for a year as an assistant at the Medical University Clinic in Göttingen, then at the Pathological Institute at Rostock University. In 1935 he moved to the University Women's Clinic in Göttingen, where he later also became a senior physician. In 1941, he completed his habilitation in obstetrics and gynecology. In 1948 he became an adjunct professor. In 1954, Massenbach went to Lübeck and took up a position as chief physician at the municipal women's clinic. In 1964 he became full professor and founding dean of the Medical Academy Lübeck, which was established as the 2nd Medical Faculty of the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel (later Medical University / Medical University, since 2003 University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck ). He was several times chairman of the Northwest German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics . After his retirement he lived in Göttingen and in a Eutin old people's home. He devoted himself entirely to his corps, ornithology and old organs .

In the post-war period in Germany , he took special care of the corps brothers and widows living in the Soviet occupation zone and in the German Democratic Republic . For this, the Corps awarded him honorary membership in January 1959.
