Begonia microsperma (literally: small-seeded Begonia) (Syn .: Begonia ficicola . Irmsch ) is a plant of the family of begoniaceae or begonia plants (Begoniaceae). The first description of this type by Otto Warburg was published in 1897. It was found again by James Dundas in December 1946 in Cameroon on the west coast of Central Africa and was given the name Begonia ficicola by Edgar Irmscher in 1954because it wasfound growingon a ficus tree ( ficicola = "ficus-dwelling"). It was later recognized that it was Begonia microsperma , so this older name is the currently valid one.

description

Begonia microsperma is a perennial herbaceous plant with a rhizome as a perennial organ. The leaves consist of the 6 to 15 cm long petiole with a diameter of 2 to 3 mm and the asymmetrical leaf blade (hence the name slate for all begonias), which is 12 to 20 cm long and 7 to 12 cm wide. There are about 4 mm long stipules present.

Begonia species are single sexed ( monoecious ). The bracts of both sexes are yellow. The female flowers are on approximately 9 cm long flower stalks that have a diameter of about 0.7 mm. About 1 to 1.5 cm below the flower are bracts about 3 mm long and wide on this flower stalk . The two bracts are about 19 mm long and 21 mm wide. The ovary is 13 mm long and 2.5 mm wide. The styluses are initially fused to one another to about 2 mm, then stand a further 2 mm apart, followed by a 1 mm long bilobed area. The capsule fruits are 18 × 4 mm in size and, like all begonia species, contain tiny seeds that are barely visible to the naked eye.
