Behbahān ( Persian بهبهان) is a city in Chuzestān Province in southwest Iran .

The maximum temperature there is approx. 50 ° C and the minimum temperature is 0 ° C.

The city developed after the fall of the city of Arrajān in the 14th century, the ruins of which are north of Behbahān.

Its inhabitants are mostly Lurs and speak Persian as well as Lurian and use words of Khuzian origin.

Archaeological finds

Archaeological finds in the region include a. the ruins of the city of Beh az Āmed-de Kavād , remains of an ancient bridge and a fire temple , ruins from the early Islamic period, a madrasa from the Safavid period and the ruins of a castle called Qal'a-ye Dokhtar ( castle of the daughter ).

There were also several archaeological finds from the Elamite period on the banks of the Marun , such as gold figures and an ornate gold object depicting two fighting winged lions with cuneiform inscriptions , which can be seen today in the Iranian National Museum in Tehran .
