The Marun ( Persian رودخانه مارون Rudkhāneh-ye Mārun ) is a river in Chuzestan Province in southwestern Iran .
The river has its source in the Zagros Mountains and flows into the Karun , just before it flows into the Arvand Rud (also Schatt al-Arab ). The water of the Marun has been used intensively for irrigation purposes in agriculture in the northern foreland of the dynamically growing city of Khorramshahr since the 20th century.
In ancient times this river was probably called Arosis , due to its size it formed a natural border between Elam (today's Khuzestan) and the Persis (today's province of Fars ).
