The Bei Jiang or North River ( Chinese  北江 , Pinyin Běi Jiāng , Jyutping Bak 1 Gong 1 ) is a 468 km long tributary of the West River in the southern People's Republic of China .

The river is created in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong near Shaoguan by the confluence of the Wu Jiang (武 江), which comes from the northwest, and Zhen Shui , which flows in from the northeast. From there, its water flows south to flow into the West River at Sanshui , which is about 50 km west of Guǎngzhōu , or to branch there into the Pearl River .
