Both wall (also half-wool Lama or Beidergemeng ) is a mixed fabric in heavy canvas prints or twill weave .

Both walls were a common material for peasant costumes , especially in the 19th century . It was mainly used in Hesse , the Odenwald and the Rhön for pleated skirts, breeches and coats, but was also widespread in northern and southern Germany.

In the first half of the 19th century, when the raw materials for fabrics were still largely spun and woven by the rural population themselves, both walls were made from warp threads of linen (flax) with woolen weft threads . Over time, linen was largely replaced by imported cotton . Both walls are not tumbled , often not even washed, but only sheared smooth (without prior roughing).
