Beinn Sholum

Beinn Sholum is a mountain on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . The 347 m high elevation is located in the southeast of the island about four kilometers north-northwest of the coastal settlement Ardbeg and five kilometers northeast of the ferry port Port Ellen . Beinn Sholum forms the southern end of a range of hills that, starting at Sgorr nam Faoileann, runs twelve kilometers in a south-westerly direction. The closest hill is Beinn Uraraidh, four kilometers to the north-northeast .

At the foot of the southern slope are the lakes Loch Sholum and Lochan Sholum , from which streams flow, the water of which is used to make the Lagavulin whiskey . One kilometer northeast is Loch Uigeadail , which supplies the water for Ardbeg's whiskey .

Beinn Sholum is located in a sparsely populated part of the island, which is why there are no roads leading to the mountain. The summit is on the island's watershed .
