Belal Arezou (also Balal or Bilal ; born December 28, 1988 in Kabul , Afghanistan ) is an Afghan football player . He is currently under contract with the Norwegian third division Asker Fotball and is also the current national team player of Afghanistan .
Career
Club career
Arezou grew up in Afghanistan and fled to Norway during the Afghan civil war . Here he played from the age of 14 in the youth teams of FK Senja , IK Grane and FK Arendal , before moving to the youth of Fredrikstad FK . Here the striker made the leap into the professional squad, where he was not used. In 2009 Arezou moved to the Norwegian third division Asker Fotball . After finishing third in the final table in 2009, Asker Fotball was able to achieve the championship in the fair play league in 2010 . In 2011, however, they were immediately relegated.
On February 9, 2013 Belal Arezou was loaned to the Indian first division club Churchill Brothers SC . He played his first competitive game on March 19 in a 3-0 win against Air India FC when he came on for Henri Antchouet in the 76th minute . At the end of the season with eight games, but without a goal, he was champion in the I-League.
Since August 2013 he has been playing again at his Norwegian home club. After relegation to the fourth division , he left the club after 118 league games and 24 goals at the end of the 2014 season. In March 2015 Arezou moved to the Norwegian third division club Moss FK . In 2017 he returned to Asker Fotball and the following year he played half a season for Arendal Fotball . He has been under contract with IF Trauma Tromøya since the beginning of 2019 .
National team
Arezou first played at the 2010 South Asian Games with the Afghan U-23 national team. To everyone's surprise, the Afghan selection won Group A after beating India (1: 0), Pakistan (2: 1) and Sri Lanka (2: 0). After beating Nepal (1-0) they reached the final, where they lost 4-0 and only won the silver medal. Arezou scored all six of Afghanistan's goals and was subsequently named the best player of the tournament.
On July 3, 2011, Belal Arezou was only the second player of his nation to score a goal in a World Cup qualification in a 1-1 draw against Palestine in the 2014 World Cup qualification after Obaidulla Karimi . In December 2011, the striker took part in the South Asian Cup. He scored the first goal of the tournament in a 1-1 draw against India . Arezou scored four goals in the Afghan record win against Bhutan (8: 1), which he has been the only Afghan to have achieved. He was voted “Man of the Match” and was the captain of his national team. After his 1-0 winner against Nepal in the 101st minute they reached the final, which they lost 4-0 against India and only reached second place.
Even with the qualification for the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup again scored important Arezou results; he scored the 1-0 winner against Sri Lanka and Mongolia and thus had a large share in the qualification. Arezou won the South Asian Championship on September 11, 2013 , but without having scored.
On March 29, 2015 Arezou announced his retirement from the national team as one of seven national players. Team-internal difficulties were given as the reason. In May 2017 he was nominated for the national team for the first time in over two years. With nine goals he is the current record scorer for the national team.
