Belgian Eifel
In the German-speaking part of Belgium, the southern part of the German-speaking Community (DG), which forms the canton of Sankt Vith, is usually referred to as the Belgian Eifel . According to this definition, the area of the communities Amel , Büllingen , Burg-Reuland , Bütgenbach and Sankt Vith belong to the Belgian Eifel. In contrast to the northern part of the DG, the Eupener Land , this very rural area is very sparsely populated.
The Belgian Eifel can also generally be understood to mean that part of the North and West Eifel that lies in Belgium . The term is not used consistently because the border with the Ardennes in the Hautes Fagnes is fluid.
The following areas can be counted in the wider sense of the Belgian Eifel:
- Part of the dither forest (the west part Nordeifel ), insofar as these high surface to Belgium towards Bütgenbach continues
- The westernmost part of the Schnee Eifel (Ommerwald) and the German-speaking area around Sankt Vith
- The High Fens (Hautes Fagnes), which can also be counted as part of the Ardennes
- Geologically and geographically, part of the Eupener Land can also be counted as part of the Eifel .
- A small part of the Ösling (hill country in northern Luxembourg ).
