The spa dwarf spring snail ( Belgrandiella parreyssii , syn .: Bythinella parreyssii , Paludina parreyssii ) is a very small species of dwarf spring snail in the family of the water lamb snail (Hydrobiidae), endemic in Lower Austria .

features

The right-hand twisted, squat egg-shaped, transparent casing of the thermal bath dwarf spring snail reaches a length of 1.3 mm and a width of 0.9 mm with around three and three-quarters of a circle. The housing mouth is thickened towards the wall and has an enlarged mouth seam at the base. The navel is closed. The operculum is red-brown to cherry-red in color. The snail, very lively in its movements, is black, gray or white with a narrow, short trunk, a short foot and long, hair-shaped antennae.

Distribution and way of life

The thermal spring snail is stenothermic and lives exclusively in warm spring water under stones. It has these conditions in the approximately 23.5 ° C warm thermal spring of Bad Vöslau and the Hansybach in Lower Austria , which is fed by it , its only known occurrence. Since the 1970s, the populations have decreased significantly, which is why the species is classified as a critically endangered species by IUCN .
