The Beluga River is a 57 km long tributary of the Cook Inlet in south-central Alaska .
The Beluga River forms the outflow of Beluga Lake , which is located at the base of the Tordrillo Mountains . It leaves the lake at its northeastern end and initially flows in a south-southeast direction. After 6 km the river widens to Lower Beluga Lake . After about 30 km the river reaches the coastal plain and turns towards east-northeast. The Beluga River finally flows into the sea 8 km northeast of the settlement Beluga . 17.5 km further east is the mouth of the Susitna River . The Beluga River has no major tributaries along its course.
The river was named by the US Geological Survey (USGS) in 1898 . The name beluga or bjeluga comes from Russian and means " white whale ".
